‘Cougar Town’ cast unsure of name change
Busy Philipps and Josh Hopkins have admitted that they don’t know whether the name of their show Cougar Town should be changed.
Executive producer Bill Lawrence has previously revealed that he is thinking of altering the title to reflect how the series has evolved.
“I don’t know if I think it’s a good idea or a bad idea,” Philipps told DS. “I think it’s an interesting idea. And I get it, because the title Cougar Town is not indicative of what the show is at the moment.”
However, Hopkins suggested that fans are used to the current name, saying: “It’s been branded. It’s Cougar Town. They put a lot of time and effort into calling it Cougar Town. But in another regard, it’s misleading. I believe that it’s limited – some people don’t want to watch a show called Cougar Town. They just assume it’s one thing that it’s not.”
The duo agreed that some viewers will refuse to watch the programme because of its current name.
“I don’t know about in the UK but in America a lot of people don’t like the term cougar,” Hopkins said. “They don’t find it funny, or it’s played out, it’s old. And I think they’ve done studies that showed some people will not watch the show because it’s called Cougar Town. And because it’s not really about that, I wouldn’t mind seeing them change the name.”

Busy Philipps reveals Laurie hopes
Busy Philipps has revealed that she wants there to be both comedy and drama in the second season of Cougar Town.
Speaking to DS, Philipps explained that she does not know how long the relationship between Smith (Ryan Devlin) and her character Laurie will last.
“I think she’s going to feel too hemmed in,” she said. “I think she’s going to need to break free and have fun.”
Philipps added that she expects the fact that Laurie and Grayson slept together to emerge in the new season.
“We’re definitely going to have to revisit the whole Grayson [and] Laurie situation,” she said. “I think it’s going to have to come into play next season. So we’ll see what happens there. Hopefully it will be comedy and drama.”

Busy Philipps has suggested that her character Laurie could fall out with Jules (Courteney Cox) in the next season of Cougar Town.
Speaking to E! Online, Philipps explained that Laurie might struggle to cope in her relationship with Smith (Ryan Devlin).
“Laurie’s got a serious boyfriend and she’s going to continue with her serious relationship,” Philipps said. “But I have a feeling she’s going to feel too hemmed in and she’ll have to go a little crazy again.”
Philipps added that Laurie and Jules’s friendship could face problems, saying: “She and Jules are going to have a real pow-wow about the fact that Laurie slept with Grayson early in the season.
“I am not looking forward to that. I like Courteney, and I don’t want to have to fight with her.”
